Teaching Philosophy
The driving force behind my work as an educator is that of care.
For me, the notion of care goes beyond that of sentimentality. Rather, I am motivated by a desire to see my students succeed, not just in the classroom, but also as people. I believe that a caring teacher who believes in her students and holds them to high standards, can inspire the self-confidence necessary for students to succeed.
I aim to foster safe spaces for discussion and discovery.
The GP classroom provides an excellent platform for students to share their experiences and opinions about contemporary issues. However, this can only happen when there is mutual respect and care among its members. I aim to make my classroom a lively space where students feel comfortable and confident to express, and even change their opinions through discussion.
I want to inspire a curiosity about the world.
On the cusp of adulthood, it is important to me to prepare students to be informed and active participants in the world around them. As we explore various issues in the classroom, I hope to inspire students to care about the issues affecting others beyond themselves, and maybe even feel empowered to make a lasting change to these situations.
